What the Science Says

A study captured the attention of many after researchers from the University of Copenhagen published it in the well-known journal Cell Metabolism. This study focused on further investigating the relationship between diet and male health, and what they found was very concerning.

The study was conducted on a certain demographic which involved a group of young and healthy men aged between 20 and 35. This group was divided into two distinct cohorts. One was placed on a diet consisting of ultra-processed foods, while the other group was fed a diet consisting of whole and unprocessed foods.

Women aren’t the only ones affected by ultra-processed diets. According to the researchers, men are also greatly impacted by such diets. Not only did the men on the ultra-processed diet gain more weight than their counterparts, they also experienced a significant drop in sperm quality. Even more alarming was the higher levels of endocrine disruptors found in their bodies. These dangerous chemicals are known to disrupt hormones and have been linked to a number of health complications such as infertility.

A Wake-Up Call for Modern Men

Over the last 50 years, we’ve experienced a dramatic rise in obesity and type 2 diabetes, two health crises closely tied to our food choices. Now, it seems that the drop in male fertility can be added to this ever-growing list.
